What is EQOA?

EverQuest Online Adventures (EQOA) is a retro MMORPG played on the PlayStation 2 (PS2) from 2003 - 2012. This game was a good chunk of my childhood and no other MMOs have matched its fun. For years, many others who missed this game developed a community to reverse-engineer the game and bring it back through emulation and developing a similar back-end server. As of 2026, there are two servers, one active (publicly playable) and one in development (not publicly playable yet). To see how to play, check out the how to play page.

Is the data accurate?

Mostly. A lot of the data was scraped from old fan-made websites (some of which are no longer available or only on web archives), meaning there are cases where something in the guides or databases may be out of date or incorrect. However, all data can be accessed and modified by the community. The goal is to get all helpful EQOA resources on one modern website and to have the community maintain and update it as needed.

How can I contribute?

Anyone is welcome to contribute! If you spot an issue or have ideas for improvement, feel free to use the EQOA Editor. It features a built-in Markdown editor to simplify guide updates, along with a UI-based JSON editor for managing information files and databases — which is more ideal for those less familiar with the underlying structure. Alternatively, you can visit the GitHub repository to contribute directly. All contributions are greatly appreciated!

Do I need to sign in to browse the content? How does the GitHub sign-in work?

No. Browsing is open to everyone, but editing and submitting changes requires signing in with GitHub so contributions can be tied to your account. As a token of appreciation, all contributors get mentioned on the pages they assist with. None of your data is stored on our servers; all authentication is handled by GitHub and stored in your browser's local storage. When you sign in, you'll be asked to grant permissions to access your GitHub account. This is necessary to create or update pull requests on the repository when you submit changes through the EQOA Editor or Map Editor. You can review the permissions requested during the sign-in process, and you have the option to revoke access at any time through your GitHub account settings.

Why here and not on a dedicated EQOA website?

I considered creating a dedicated website solely for EQOA content, but I ultimately decided to build on this existing site instead. I've owned this domain since 2012, and it already serves as a personal project with a solid UI and foundation. It includes features like a robust translation system, a theme switcher, and is easy to maintain overall. This approach also ensures longevity — if I ever lose interest in EQOA (and let's say I want to stop paying for the domain), the content will still remain available and maintained as part of the broader site as I continue updating it over time.
